TEAM Racer Update: Bauerly Racing at the Pontiac Silverdome
Pontiac Silverdome National Snocross – February 10, 2012
The Western Power Sports Michigan Snocross National presented by Tim Hortens , took place in the historic Pontiac Silverdome in front of an enormous crowd that approached 20,000. Round 7 of the Amsoil Championship Snocross Series descended upon the snowless Detroit metro area where Mother Nature made it very hard to try and host a snowmobile race this winter. However, the talented ISOC crew and some eager local contractors were able to pull it off in time for the big Friday night showdown inside the dome.
Paul Bauerly (#24) ran in the Pro Open class where he started off in round 1 with a competitive start, and rode smoothly to a 4th place finish. In round 2, Paul fought hard mid-pack and pushed his way back to a 5th place finish after a brief mishap on the backstretch. The two finishes landed Paul as the 4th qualifier in the LCQ. In the last chance qualifier the track was getting brutal, yet Paul charged hard just missing the transfer to the main event by one spot with a 6th place overall finish.
The Pro-Lites class provided some intense racing action for the fans; Chase Rosemeyer (#675) and John Stenberg (#259) both ran for the team. Round 1 started off with Chase running up front in his heat to a 2nd place finish. John ran hard after a great start, but pushed too hard too soon and dismounted in a tight congested corner and eventually came across the line in 6th. The pair went back to the pits to regroup and came back for Round 2 later in the evening with Chase again charging hard to a solid 3rd place finish. John again matched that performance early on but was only able to maintain a 5th place finish after a tough race. Those finished landed John in the LCQ where he again rode steady and fast and made the transfer to the main event. Chase was the 4th qualifier in the front row of the final after his great qualifying efforts. The Pro-Lites main event provided 16 laps of nonstop action for the crowd. Chase got a great start and worked hard in the top 5 for the first part of the race, steadily creeping up on the leaders. John who started in the back row made a charge like no other, going from 15th to 6th in just a couple of laps. As the race wore on, the leaders’ sleds began having troubles and John and Chase continued their march toward the front. In the closing laps, the two kept pace with the leaders and struck on the last lap to take the 2nd and 3rd place positions on the podium to put an exclamation point on a very successful day of racing!
